Comments As Group Discussions

What if comments were posts and posts were comments?

Skelliewag.org asked a question today about trying to create more of a discussion in blog posts as opposed to just comments to each article.

The standard solution would be something like a threaded comment system, such as the kind this plugin provides. However, I thought something more substantial could be created using Wordpress’ multiple users function.

What I’m trying to do is allow readers to register to this blog and write new posts in response to either my articles, existing comments or new posts made by other users responding to existing comments!

There’s nothing out there that does this automatically, so I’m attempting to allow open registrations with set user limits. User posts will be filtered to specific categories so it’s not all mixed up with what I write, and then some kind of automatic linkback system to posts and comments needs to be created.

If that’s easier than I think it is, we should have something interesting.
