So to take a suggestion from Skelliewag and inspiration from Zenhabits, I’m willing to implement a topic-by-day schedule to maintain a little structure.
Stick to your core topics. Too many topics will mean that, unless the site is mainly about you and your personality, for every person you please you will be boring ten others. If you do need to write on diverse topics it could be wise to assign them to certain days, so uninterested readers can skip them.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
Monday: Blogging
Tips, references and guides for writing blogs [better than this one].
Like: Problogger and DailyBlogTips.
Tuesday: Arts
I’d like to write art/design articles. Basically covers anything visual, maybe even some illustrations from me.
Like: Drawn! and WeMakeMoneyNotArt.
Wednesday: Web
Internet based issues, news. Any ‘web2.0′, social kind of apps such as Twitter and Facebook stuff.
Like: Scobleizer and Scripting.
Thursday: Lifehacks
Household stuff, ’self-help’, productivity and organizational topics.
Like: Lifehack.org and DumbLittleMan.
Friday: Music
Anything audio related. Album reviews, original music, industry news.
Like: BigStereo and, umm, AphexTwin?
Saturday: Local [Melbourne]
Stuff that’s happening around town such as gigs, politics etc.
Like: ThreeThousand and general Melbourne goings-on.
Sunday: Personal
Just general jibberish based on my silly life.
Like: crrrg.com but whilst drinking and barbecuing.
What do you guys think? Am I digging myself a hole or is this just a good way to populate the site with articles so I can find what works best? Suggestions welcome.
